New gTLD Domain Name
The purpose of this page is to communicate developments of the newly announced
gTLDs and the impact on you our resellers.
On November 16th 2000, the board of directors of the Internet Corporation
for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) announced its
selections for registry operators for new top-level domains.
The applications selected for further negotiation as follows:
- .info - Afilias, LLC
- .aero - Societe Internationale de Telecommunications
Aeronautiques SC, (SITA)
- .biz - JVTeam, LLC
- .coop - National Cooperative Business Association,
(NCBA)
- .museum - Museum Domain Management Association, (MDMA)
- .name - Global Name Registry, LTD
- .pro - RegistryPro, LTD
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names
and Numbers (ICANN) announced on May 15, 2001 that it had
finalized accreditation agreements with the new .biz and .info
top-level domain (TLD) registries. This will mark the first
introduction of new global top-level domains since the mid
1980s when the current domain name system became
operational.
